Jack Del Rio has been officially named the Raiders 21st head coach. Jack is also a Bay Area native that was a Raiders season ticket holder for many years and has family that are die hard Raiders fans. Despite Del Rio’s love for the Bay Area and his longtime love for the Raiders, he’s had a mediocre career as a head coach. In 2003 Del Rio became the second head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars and led the Jaguars to a 5-11 record in his first year. Despite Del Rios rough start with the Jaguars, he did however lead the team to two playoff appearances in 2005 and 2007. During his nine year stint in Jacksonville, until he was subsequently fired as head coach in on November 29, 2011, Jack ended his head coaching career in Jacksonville with a 68-71 regular season record and 1-2 post season record. In 2012 Del Rio was hired as the defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos, where he served in that capacity since being officially hired, today as the Raiders head coach. On paper, especially defensively, Jack appears to bring a lot to the Raiders organization. However, Denis Allen, the former Raiders head coach was also a former defensive coordinator for the Broncos that proved to be a travesty in Oakland. Only time will tell if Del Rio is the much needed key for success in Oakland.
